Hopa Mountain's StoryMakers program is an early learning initiative that offers a primary caregiver of children ages 0–5 proven tools to support them in creating a home environment that gives their children the best chances for success in school.
The Early Care & Education report, released in fall 2010, explores the issue of early care and education of young children in Vermont and was made possible through the guidance and support of the Permanent Fund for the Well-Being of Vermont Children, the A.D. Henderson Foundation, and the Vermont Community Foundation.
This may be informative for other rural areas.
U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced that 21 nonprofit organizations and institutions of higher education will receive Promise Neighborhoods planning grants. With the one-year grants, the recipients will create plans to provide cradle-to-career services that improve the educational achievement and healthy development of children.
The Montana Early Care Initiative (ECI) is a new multi-year program of the Big Sky Institute for the Advancement of Nonprofits (BSI) designed to:
Expand and strengthen the organizational capacity of the 11 community-based Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) agencies that serve all of Montana, including the seven Indian reservations. CCR&Rs are the foundational building blocks for the child care and education services delivery system;
Build expanded and ongoing philanthropic support for the vital CCR&R agencies and the direct providers of early care and education services; and
Expand and strengthen the infrastructure that supports and assists the CCR&R agencies and the direct providers of early care and education services.
It may be considered patting ourselves on the back, but we are pretty proud. The Edwards Foundation was listed as # 3 in the nation in giving to Native Americans as a percentage of over all giving.
